PARIS — Rapper Travis Scott has been arrested following an alleged fight involving a security guard and his own bodyguard at a luxury hotel in central Paris, French authorities said on Friday.

“I can confirm that on August 9, 2024, police officers were called to the George V hotel and arrested the rapper nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard,” the Paris prosecutor’s officer said in a statement.

“The security guard had intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has referred the case to the 1st district of the judicial police,” the statement said, without adding any further details.

A representative for Scott said the rapper had been “chased and harassed” by paparazzi for days “with no help given.” He was arrested after getting into a fight with his own security detail.

The representative said they are in communication with the local authorities “to swiftly resolve this matter.”

Scott, 33, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was still in custody as of Friday afternoon. Police are expected to interview the rapper and could either let him go or pursue charges.

The rapper was pictured in the crowd at the men’s Olympic basketball semifinal on Thursday, in which the U.S. team came from behind to secure a narrow 4-point victory and proceed to the final and a shot at winning gold.

The George V hotel, near Paris’s famous Champs-Élysées and with views of the Eiffel Tower, boasts multiple Michelin-starred restaurants.

Scott was arrested in June on a disorderly intoxication charge after he allegedly yelled at people on a yacht in Miami Beach, Florida. His attorney said that the incident was a simple “misunderstanding.”

Scott has not publicly spoken or reacted to the arrest. The Associated Press said it contacted a representative for Scott but had not received a response.
