According to agency reports, in six battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, electors gave Biden and Harris their votes. Nevada’s electors met through virtual platform because of COVID-19.
“In this battle for the soul of America, democracy prevailed,” Biden said in remarks in an evening speech. “We the people voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact. And so, now it is time to turn the page. To unite. To heal,” he said.
Trump, certain Republicans still in denial
Despite confirmation by the Electoral College, certain Republican leaders refused to acknowledge the outcome. In Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, trump electors met despite Bidens wins from these states. In North Carolina, Utah, Trump’s electors came out to cast votes for him. “No, I worry about the country having an illegitimate president, that’s what I worry about. A president that lost and lost badly,” Trump told Fox News in an interview.
Biden is slated to be sworn-in as US President on January 20. Biden will address the nation Monday night after the electors have voted.
